- Below are sketches of typical installations showing each Model and the steps in the process.
- Each installation is basically "plug and play," but not "set it and forget it." Periodic testing of the pump is essential.
- Complete instructions are included with your new Hydropump model as are all the colored parts shown in the drawing with solid outlines.
- Our design team has tried very hard to think of everything, and the only thing missing, besides the battery, would be an item for a very unusual situation.
Tools and Supplies Needed: Utility Knife, Hand saw or PVC Cutter, Pair of large adjustable Pliers, Slotted Screwdriver, PVC Cleaner and Cement (small can of each)
Typical Installation of Hydropump DH900-M & RH1400 (Inside the Sump)
These are about the easiest backup sump pumps to install on the market today. They both install the same way using the same brackets, etc. The only difference is the size and pumping capacity of the two pumps. Using an adjustable mounting bracket and standard PVC connections that are included, very few tools or supplies are needed. Be sure the check valve on your main pump discharge pipe is in good working order or replace it now, during this installation.
- Attach long Floor bracket to pump bracket, already mounted to pump.
- Connect hose to pump with hose clamp.
- Lower pump/bracket assembly into sump against side wall.
- Place battery case with battery onto bracket resting flat on the floor to stabilize pump.
- Unplug primary pump, drain water out, and connect Tee fitting assembly to primary sump pump discharge pipe and clamp hose to barbed fitting.
- Float comes clamped to pump, but you may remove it and use the included smaller hose clamp to attach it to discharge pipe and adjust cord for proper swing of float (DH900-M float does not swing or move at all).
- Connect the battery and test the unit. See instructions for details on start-up procedures.
Typical Installation of Hydropump RH1400 (Outside the Sump)
- With only the suction pipe and float in the sump, it fits in very narrow sumps.
- You must have a fully functioning, one-way check valve in the discharge pipe from your main pump, as shown, to prevent water from returning through the main pump and into the sump pit.
- A one-way foot valve at the base of the Hydropump suction pipe prevents water from returning to sump through Hydropump and keeps Hydropump primed.
- Note: Set the float at the proper operating level to keep foot valve underwater when either the main pump OR Hydropump runs. If the main pump runs while the foot valve is exposed to the air, it will allow air in to break the prime in the Hydropump. If the sump goes down below the foot valve on its own, and not from being pumped out, this does not apply.
- Place unit on floor next to sump.
- Unplug primary pump, drain water out, and connect Tee fitting assembly to primary sump pump discharge pipe.
- Install suction pipe with check valve and suction screen, and adjust to reach near the bottom of the sump. Cement parts together only when you're certain of final position.
- Insert tee assembly into primary sump pump discharge pipe above your existing check valve. Cement into place when you are certain of its final position.
- Connect discharge hose to barbed fittings and secure with hose clamps provided.
- Mount float switch to suction pipe using attached clamp and adjust so pump operates only when primary sump pump fails.
Run main pump by lifting it's float with water in the sump. This primes the Hydropump. Connect battery and test the Hydropump unit. See instructions for details on start-up procedures.
