Directions For Use:

To inflate:

Simply submerge the WaterBag in water using a container, pool, stream, river, or pond.  Bag will expand from 1 lb. to approximately 34 lbs. in 3 to 5 minutes! Easy to use…

Suggestions for constructing Waterbags Levee:

Stagger the second layer of bags, stomping each bag into place before placing the next. Stomp each succeeding layer of bags into place. It is important to remember that this is NOT the same as building a brick wall. As you go higher, you must spread out at the bottom to support the force of the water. This means turning bag layers perpendicular to each other to give the wall lateral strength.

Approximate Materials required for 100 lineal feet of WaterBag™ wall

Height Number of Bags needed
1 Foot 600- 800 Bags
2 Feet 1,400 - 2,000 Bags
3 Feet 2,200 - 3,400 Bags
4 Feet 5300 Bags
5 Feet 7,600 Bags
6 Feet 10,000 Bags

After use:

Multiple methods exist for post use handling:

Natural drying of the WaterBag.  Simply lay the bags out in the sun for a couple days and watch them shrink! Bag will shrink back to its original size!

OR

Soak used bag in a 5 ~10% salt (CaCl) solution, bag will shrink to original size in about 10 ~ 15 minutes and is rendered unusable.

OR

Burn bag at 250º C or bury under ground, bag is biodegradable and will dissolve naturally.

OR

Place into landfill where it is completely bio-degradable and environmentally friendly!

Compare ordinary sandbags to Waterbags

Building a sandbag levee with traditional sandbags is hard work, for sure!

Typical sandbags shown here, require much equipment and manpower to deploy. Delivery of bags and sand to a work site and filling, tying, and loading bags onto trucks to transport to the flood area takes a large operation.
Waterbags reduces this labor and transportation intensive process. Simply deliver the bags, which are like delivering empty bags, right to the site where they will be used. Place them into water and as they inflate to full size, place them directly into the wall you are building. No double handling.

Save Money, Time, and Labor in the war against flooding with  bags filled with a safe biodegradable polymer and water

Build dikes in half the time with fewer people

 Deploys quickly and easily.

Easy to use.  Automatically inflates in only 3~5 minutes. Expands from 1 lbs. to 34 lbs. before your eyes.

Requires Less LABOR to prepare or use.

Can be ‘inflated’ at point of use, no need for heavy infrastructure preparation (i.e. Remote filling with sand, transportation to site etc.).

Very efficient. Requires no more storage space than a normal, empty sand bag!

Easy to ship or move.

Environmentally Friendly!

Uses natural jute bag or polypropylene plastic bag and water absorbing resin (PRTR Approved, the same as baby diapers).

Product dissolves naturally in ground

Waterbags are a replacement for the age-old sandbag in the control of floodwater. The WaterBag offers a new solution using recyclable type bags filled with a polyacrylate polymer. Water can easily be found and used at the site.

Bags are easy to Use

The WaterBags are constructed of strong, porous polypropylene plastic or burlap and, when filled, withstand the forces of floodwaters. A small amount of polymer is added to the bag. When the bag is filled with water, the polymer is activated into a heavy gel. This gel stabilizes the water inside the WaterBag and gives it strength to form a barrier as the bags are stacked at the dike site.

When floodwaters recede, the gel is removed or the bags are dried out. This output can be dumped directly back into the river where it has no effect on aquatic life; or it can be disposed of at local landfills or agricultural fields. The gel is biodegradable in a matter of days. When dispersed in agricultural fields, it can be tilled into the ground where it retains moisture and enhances crop growth.

WaterBags are equivalent to sandbags in volume and weight and can be used to build dikes more effectively than sandbags. Tests show that fewer people can build better dikes in a fraction of the time compared to traditional sandbagging techniques and for considerably less total cost.

You don't have to live near water to become a flood victim. In fact, everyone lives in a flood zone. It's just a matter of how likely it is that a flood will hit your home. And unfortunately, floods are the most common natural disaster.

Flood zones are rated based on the "100-year flood" or the "500-year flood." This is the standard used by most federal and state agencies, is used by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) as the standard for floodplain management, and is used to determine the need for flood insurance.

The "100-year flood" zone means that the area's elevation has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded by flooding each year, or a 26% chance of suffering flood damage during the term of a 30-year mortgage.

The "500-year flood" zone means that the area has a lower risk of flooding. However, 25% of all flood insurance claims are from these areas.
