Some backup sump pumps are installed quite high in the sump pit because the mounting position is determined by the discharge pipe for the main pump. This makes it nearly impossible for the backup pump to effectively empty the pit. It often tends to run in very short cycles and usually fails to bring the water level below the drain tiles that run under the basement floor.

HYDROPUMP DH 1800 comes complete with its own mounting bracket that makes it possible to set the pump easily at the desired height in the sump above the high water level. The pump stays above the water line and usually only contacts water when it rises above normal.

HYDROPUMP RH 1400 uses a suction pipe that goes all the way to the bottom of the sump pit. This assures an effective removal of water from the pit and the drain tiles. It keeps the pump on the floor, away from the sump water and out of the way of the main pump. This pump is designed for use especially in very narrow or crowded sumps.

HYDROPUMP PH 3500 is mounted on the floor, like the RH1400, but its pumping capacity is much higher. It is kept safely away from the water until needed, and uses a suction pipe that goes to the bottom of the sump pit.

When an ordinary backup sump pump is installed by teeing into the discharge pipe of the main pump, it is often so close to the exit of the main pump that it leaves little room for the check valve to fit below it. This often means that the check valve must be positioned only inches away from all the pressure and turbulence from that main pump's impeller. As a result, the check valve itself often becomes broken inside or develops a hole in it. When the day arrives that the backup pump has to go on, instead of removing water, it recycles it back down through the damaged check valve and the basement floods! This configuration also makes it difficult to install most backup pumps! HYDROPUMP is connected to the main pump discharge pipe 3 - 4 feet above that turbulent point. This leaves plenty of room to install the main check valve at a point where the water is running smoothly through the pipe and causes no damage to the check valve. It also means the pump is much easier to install, usually without removing the main pump to do it.

Installation of all these models is a breeze and we include everything you should need except the battery. We recommend a standard size, 12 Volt Marine Deep Cycle Battery, or Sealed Lead-Acid Battery, or AGM Battery, or Gel Battery available locally throughout the country. We also sell AGM and Gel Batteries on our purchasing page. We include a high-impact plastic battery case #27 that protects the battery and the terminals. The case is designed to give the battery plenty of ventilation.
